WASHINGTON, July 14th. / TASS /. The US has made it clear to Russia that it will take action against hackers on Russian territory if Moscow does not deal with them, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.
âWe are working to bring allies and partners with us to react together when others are involved in malicious cyber activities. That happened after the slump in SolarWinds, âhe told the Global Emerging Technology Summit of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI) on Tuesday.
According to the top US diplomat, 22 countries supported Washingtonâs conclusion on Russiaâs role in the attack.
“And that’s important because when we speak with one voice we can be more effective in deterring future bad deeds,” he said.
âOur message is clear: Countries that host cybercriminals have a responsibility to take action. If they don’t, we will, âadded Blinken.
The topic of threats in cyberspace has gained particular importance in the USA in recent months. At the beginning of May, attackers from the DarkSide group hacked into the systems of the American pipeline company Colonial Pipeline. According to US intelligence agencies, DarkSide can be stationed on the territory of Russia or Eastern Europe, but is not affiliated with any government. On May 31, the computer networks of the American division of the Brazilian meat processing company JBS were attacked. According to the White House press service, the company believes that a Russia-based cybercrime organization could be behind this attack.
On June 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the allegations against Moscow of being behind these cyberattacks as ridiculous and absurd. The Russian president believed it could have been orchestrated to fuel controversy before meeting Biden. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured that Russia would quickly examine all inquiries from the US regarding the hacking attack on the meat processing company, if any. He also stressed that Moscow had no information about the perpetrators behind the JBS attacks.
