Cleaning: Mrs Hinch fans share a £1 hack for removing oil stains from clothes


Cleaning star Mrs. Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, rose to popularity after sharing her cleaning tips and recommendations on social media and TV. The cleaning freak has gained over 4.2 million followers on Instagram. Now fans of hers have started their own social media groups dedicated to cleaning and tidying tips.

One of the groups, which has more than 631,000 members, receives hundreds of tips every day.

Facebook user Anne-Marie Staff asked in the group: “Hi, can someone help me?

“My husband’s pants seem to have some fat in them.

“We only noticed that when they came out of the laundry.

Belinda Wright said, “Fairy liquid, put on a good dab. Let absorb.

“Wash as usual. You may have to do it twice.”

Frances Jane Main said: “Original Fairy Liquid, apply neat, add a small amount of water and leave for as long as possible, it will definitely work.”

Fairy Original Washing Up Liquid Green with LiftAction 433ml is available from Sainsbury’s for £1.

Fairy Platinum washing up liquid 900ml can be bought from Wilko for £2.

Fairy Wash Up Liquid 383ml is available from The Range for £1.

Other suggestions from Mrs. Hinch fans included the use of talcum powder and elbow grease.

Pat Lynch said: “Please try talcum powder, dab to soak up the grease, brush off, repeat if it’s still there. Worked for me.”

Helen Johnstone wrote: “Baby powder is a boon.

“I spilled massage oil on mine and rubbed in baby powder and left it for a while and the stains were gone.”

Johanna Lee Barnes said: “Spray with Elbow Grease and wash again.

“Happened to my son’s school sweaters, think it’s the fabric softener.”

Brenda Truter replied, “I was able to clean up spilled olive oil from an expensive lid with eucalyptus oil.

“Sounds weird, please google it. Pour a little over the stain, leave for about an hour, and then wash.

“It came out like magic. Much luck.”

Kay Robinson said, “Lighter fluid, squirt and wash immediately, always works.”
