A driver was hacked to death by two brothers in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday in broad daylight.

The deceased, identified as Sivaperumal, 45, was known to the defendants – Arumugam, 31, and his brother Sornaraj, 28. They would meet for a drink every day, police said.

According to the police, the three had gathered as usual on Friday at 5 p.m. and started drinking. After a few drinks, the trio got into an argument with Arumugam pulling out a knife hidden in his waistband and attacking Sivaperumal.

To prevent Sivaperumal from escaping, Sornaraj held the victim while Arumugam continued to attack. The incident was captured on someone’s cell phone.

In the meantime, witnesses from the area had tried to intervene. The defendants, on the other hand, pulled their knives and tried to escape from the crime scene. However, the locals have caught the duo and handed them over to the authorities, the police said.

Further investigations into the incident are ongoing, the police said.
