The murder of the 27-year-old Aravind alias Lee on September 12th in the football stadium shook the city of Bengaluru. The incident was the latest in a series of murders that resulted from a gang feud between two families in East Bengaluru that actually began after a disagreement over the choice of a song to play at a funeral in February 2013.
Four murders were reportedly reported as a result of the feud that began in 2013, prior to Aravind’s assassination. The warring groups include the family and co-workers of former local criminal Daniel Raj and another local thug named Vinod Raj. Daniel was killed in the KG Halli slums in East Bengaluru in February 2013 and in this context Vindo was killed in November 2014.
India Express Report said that one of the prime defendants in the murder of Aravind, a Karthick Dilip Football Club player and coach, is Stalin Daniel, son of Daniel Raj. While Aravind has been linked to the Vinod Raj gang. However, the local police named Stalin Daniel among the attackers in the case and arrested him and three other people. They are looking for some others who are suspected of being involved in the murder.
An East Bengaluru Division police officer said in connection with the IE case that the origin of this ongoing feud was not sovereignty, drugs or other criminal activity .
Daniel was 40 years old when he was murdered, and according to police records, he had a criminal record and was killed on February 2, 2013 while mourning the death of Vinod’s wife’s grandmother.
According to reports, a drunk Daniel and a colleague named Arun made a riot over a song at the funeral and attacked the mother and Vinod’s wife.
That same night, Vinod allegedly killed Daniel along with his gang members, including his brother, police and court files say. Vinod was murdered on November 23, 2014 in a revenge attack by Daniel’s family, including his wife and then 19-year-old son Stalin. The incident occurred within the confines of KG Halli police.
Years later, however, the feud resurfaced in February 2019. A man named Prashant Raj aka Prashant Kumar, 30, Vinod’s other brother, was murdered by a gang of over 20 people inside the Banaswadi police station. The accused were allegedly Vinod’s murderers, Prashant’s wife told police.
IE reported that in 2017 Prashant and Aravind were allegedly hired by a then personal advisor to the BJP leader and former CM BS Yediyurappa to kidnap a personal advisor to BJP leader KS Eshwarappa. They were reportedly hired to extract a video from the phone of Eshwarappa’s advisor.
In May 2020, the fourth murder in the feud occurred when 39-year-old Mariya Dilip, aka Bijju, a defendant in the Daniel Raj murder case, was killed. The killing was allegedly carried out out of fear of an impending attack by the Vinod Raj gang for Prasant’s murder in 2019.
However, the most recent murder in the family feud involves Aravind, who was killed on September 12 in the Bengaluru football stadium. He has been linked to the Vinod Raj gang and his murder was reportedly an attempt to prevent an attack on the 2020 murder of Mariya Dilip.
Police sources told IE that Aravind was arrested a few months ago for attacking Stalin Daniel’s brother Subhash. He allegedly attacked other employees of Stalin and they decided to kill him before attacking them again, sources said.
Aravind had up to 14 lawsuits against him, most of them involving bodily harm following disputes over football matches.
Aravind ran and played for the Karthick Dilip Football Club in east Bengaluru and was named after gang members like Mariya Dilip who had supported the local club.
