Soul Hackers 2 should use unique characters with its setting

Atlus recently announced this Soul Hacker 2 will be the next RPG to join its library of games, and so far it’s looking both compelling and odd. Soul Hacker 2 clearly shows its roots in the Shin Megami Tensei spinoff series devil charmer, thanks to the continued use of characters known as Devil Summoners, who collect and command supernatural creatures. However, it’s also a massive departure from its roots in some ways. It borrows heavily from the persona The franchise’s signature mechanics, and it also has a colorful cyberpunk aesthetic that sets it apart from most Shin Megami Tensei Title.

These oddities should serve as strengths that make Soul Hacker 2 varies, but Atlus needs to embrace the game’s variance to make the changes truly worthwhile. For example, the characters that players can meet and connect with in the style of Social Links and Confidants persona should reflect the mix of sci-fi and fantasy. Soul Hacker 2 has the power to introduce Ringo to a wide range of compelling characters to befriend as long as Atlus allows her. Instead of limiting Ringo to her humanoid Devil Summoner companions, there should be supporting characters that embody a variety of the game’s themes and aesthetic components.

Soul Hackers 2 has great character potential

Atlus hasn’t explained the full list of characters in soul hacker 2, but already known details about the setting point to many possibilities. Similar to its predecessor in Fel Summoner: Soul Hacker, Soul Hacker 2 takes place in a distant Japanese city where advanced technology and supernatural events collide. Devil Summoners use special devices called COMPs to summon demons while ordinary people live separate from demons in a flashy but mysterious city full of Devil Summoner organizations.

Soul Hacker 2 must design a variety of supporting characters that embody different parts of this complicated society, especially when Ringo can befriend more characters than the playable Devil Summoners. Of course she should face normal humans with intricate connections to demons or fel summoners, but Atlus should flex its muscles in world design. It would be great to see Ringo befriend an escaped demon like a Social Link, or spend time with a less advanced AI character who looks up to Ringo. When Soul Hacker 2 will be based on a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy, then its supporting characters must reflect the way these two ideas are compared and contrasted.

Learn from Persona’s character design

Befriend demons and robots Soul Hacker 2 may sound strange, but it wouldn’t be entirely out of the question considering Persona has an established precedent of the occasional offbeat social link and confidant. For example in person 4, The Hermit Social Link is a fox guarding a shrine in Inaba. A fox seems like an odd character, but his sacred duties and uncanny interest in helping the people of Inaba think person 4‘s themes of friendship and mystery. If a non-speaking character like a fox can serve as a social link, then certainly Soul Hacker 2 has room for some friendly demons or other sentient AI.

It is possible that Soul Hacker 2 will have a far less limited social system than individual 5‘s robust network of confidants; Atlus may choose to give the main characters the spotlight and only make minor borrowings personainstead of connecting Ringo to a whole list of characters. Soul Hacker 2 but would be better off with large social elements; Social interactions will be a great way to help Atlus players connect to this new world, and as a stranger to the mortal world, Ringo could really benefit from it. Soul Hacker 2The release of isn’t too far away, so luckily the wait for more character details won’t be long.

Soul Hacker 2 will be released on August 26, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
