Disney+ has already seen some successful shows expanded on the war of stars universe, although almost all focus on the Empire and Rebellion era. A new rumor has it that Lucasfilm is developing a new series for the streaming service, set in the galaxy’s most recent period: the High Republic Era.
According to Cinelinx, a new live-action series is in development centered around a cast of pre-teen heroes. While details are extremely sparse, the report claims a common description among anonymous sources is “Stranger Things in Space.” Additionally, the upcoming show will involve the creative minds behind the ongoing novels and comics.
It’s unknown how far the series has come, but recent reports suggest that casting may begin if it hasn’t already. It is worth noting that this is a rumor and cannot be verified. At the time of writing, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney have officially announced any such series affecting the High Republic era. However, there are other projects that will expand this era, such as the upcoming video game Star Wars: Solar Eclipse.
Star Wars: The High Republic was launched in early 2020 as a multimedia initiative marking a new era in the war of stars Universe. The High Republic has been shown to have taken place approximately 200 years before the events of war of stars movies. The releases have been divided into three phases, with the current Light of the Jedi phase set to run through 2022 before the initiative moves into the next Quest of the Jedi phase.
The game is being developed by Quantic Dream and was announced in December. Publisher Lucasfilm Games previously teased, “Star Wars Eclipse will feature an original story and unique new characters, each with their own paths, abilities and roles to play in the web of events that bring about the carefully balanced peace in an uncharted stretch of the world Outer Rim.”
Aside from this particular rumor, it is known that there is at least one unannounced war of stars project in progress. C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels recently teased work on a mystery project being filmed at Ealing Studios in west London. There has been speculation that the project could be Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated series. A droid storywhich was announced in 2020 and will focus on R2-D2 and Threepio.
